The Josselin Tourist Office has set up three easy routes around the following themes: water (blue route), heritage (dark pink route) and light (orange route). Each of these routes allows you to discover an aspect of Josselin. Good walkers can easily cover all three routes in a morning or afternoon. With its flamboyant gothic style, the castle of Josselin leaves no one indifferent. Like the two great fortresses of La Chèze and Pontivy, it has served as the residence of the Dukes of Rohan since its construction in the 11th century. This superb castle, although inhabited by the current Duke of Rohan and his wife Antoinette, is open to the public between April and November. The visit includes the discovery of the castle, an access to the dolls and toys museum as well as a walk in the French garden, the English park and the rose garden of the castle.

Before returning to your campsite near Josselin, don’t miss the opportunity to visit the Basilica ! Notre-Dame du Roncier is a gothic style religious building which dates back to the 12th century. It houses antique furniture, splendid stained glass windows, a large organ and the recumbent statue of the feudal lord Olivier de Clisson. In summer, you can climb the hundred or so steps of the bell tower to admire the most beautiful view of Josselin.

Free access to the bell tower from 01/07 to 31/08 from 10am to 6pm (Monday to Friday) and from 2pm to 6pm (Saturdays and Sundays)
Josselin has been awarded the “Petite Cité de Caractère” label because the town has a large number of half-timbered houses. The houses in the medieval suburb of Sainte-Croix underwent major restoration work in 2006. This thousand year old district, built at the same time as the castle of Josselin, offers its visitors a real journey back in time!
